We were delighted to once again take part in Make UK’s National Manufacturing Day on Thursday 25th September. This annual event is all about celebrating manufacturing, showcasing career opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of talent and it was a real pleasure to host students at Alwayse once more.
This year, we welcomed 14 talented students from Aston Manor Academy for an immersive, hands-on experience of life inside our business. The day offered them a unique insight into how an SME like ours operates across every stage of manufacturing, from research and development, fabrication, and design, to CNC tooling, assembly, and apprenticeship opportunities.
To make the experience as engaging as possible, the students were split into two groups and rotated through each section of the business. They had the chance to speak directly with our employees, learning about their career journeys and gaining valuable first-hand insights into working in engineering. Discussions covered topics such as:
- How they first got into engineering
- The challenges and obstacles they’ve overcome along the way
- The skills, training, and experience that helped them develop into their current roles
It was inspiring to see the students’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and genuine interest in every part of the process. Their thoughtful questions and eagerness to learn reminded us just how important it is to engage with the next generation of talent, showing them the exciting and varied opportunities available in manufacturing today.
Our team thoroughly enjoyed sharing their experiences, showcasing the people, skills, and innovation that drive our business, and seeing the students’ reactions as they explored our facilities. Days like this highlight why nurturing future talent is so important, and we are proud to be doing our part in supporting the bright minds of Birmingham.
